Your county needs you!!!
Hampshire Seniors Over 70’s would welcome any new recruits for the 2022 season. There must be talent out there somewhere!! If you are 70 or older (69 year olds are welcome although there are limitations re eligibility) and still playing cricket reasonably regularly – or even if you have recently stopped playing weekend cricket – playing for Hampshire Seniors is a great way to maintain involvement in the game we all love.
This coming season, we are scheduled to have games from mid-April through to mid-September. Twelve of those games will be league fixtures with home and away matches against Sussex, Somerset, Devon, Bucks/Berks, Surrey, Wiltshire and Somerset. Matches are either 40 or 45 overs per side. Following the league programme, there are several knock-out competitions dependant on league placement.
We are extremely fortunate to play away at some stunning grounds (e.g. Sidmouth) and try to play home games at different Hampshire clubs that are able to host us. Match fees and subscriptions are entirely reasonable and players share lifts for away fixtures.
The cricket is competitive but always played in a good spirit. Fielding can be interesting at times but everyone is forgiving -apart from when bowling! It’s a complete myth that the teams are comprised of players who have played the game at first class level.
Having said that, the standard is perhaps surprisingly good. Most of all, there’s a great sense of camaraderie both within and between teams and drinks are always enjoyed together after the game. Hampshire Seniors have teams at 50’s 60’s and 70’s levels.
Nets start at the Ageas Bowl on Wednesday 9th February at 8 and run weekly for the following couple of months. Long enough to get over the inevitable early aches and pains and recover muscle memory.
