1973 & the Hythe & Dibden Committee elected to join the newly formed Hampshire Cricket League.
They were placed in County Division 1 however the Second XI continued to play Friendlies for a few more seasons.
Captained by Phil Pick the clubs first game was vs Follands but things didn't go to plan ~ having reduced Follands to 166 for 7 ~ H&D were shot out for just 25 ~ to this day the First XI's lowest ever league score.
Things did get better but Hythe's first win was full of controversy ~
Hythe were playing top of the table Portsmouth & Southsea. Portsmouth fell just short of the Hythe total but claimed they still had one over to go.
The result was upheld and went before the HCL Committee. The result was upheld and Hythe won their first game.
They then made it two in two beating Deanery by 38 runs.
Hythe finished 9th that season with a 6-6 record. George Knights topped the Batting Averages 307 runs in 11 innings whilst Brian Sexton took 29 wkts @ 17.24 .
In Hythe's 12 games only one score over 200 was recorded ~ wickets were a bit different then.
